Microsoft extends support for Windows in its version 1511 but only within Windows for business and education
It was this summer that Microsoft let us know that Windows version 1511 was going to stop receiving updates. Windows 1511 was released in November 2015 and for Microsoft it had already met its quota of updates.
New versions have come out later and the normal thing is that users would have been gradually updating their equipment to more modern versions of the operating system. A fact that does not seem to sink in among users (the need to keep systems and programs up to date) and that has motivated Microsoft to extend support for an old version of the operating system
The end of support for version 1511 of Windows should have taken place in October 2017, although Microsoft has decided that it decides to extend it for another six months , that is, until April 2018. An extension that nevertheless has nuances that must be read.
And it is that not all computers will have those six months of extension, as this extension will only apply to Windows 10 Enterprise, version 1511 or Windows 10 Education , version 1511, as it is these devices that pose the most difficulties to update given the special situation in which they find themselves.
Currently Windows 10 has versions 1511, 1607, 1703 and 1709 as active versions of the operating system, running some of They are used by teams of companies and public organizations that, for practical or economic reasons, do not have them properly updated.
This Microsoft extension is therefore considered a courtesy term that they should not have given so that those affected have a margin of maneuver to bring your systems up to date. Updates will be delivered through all normal channels, including Windows Update, WSUS, Configuration Manager, and the Windows Update Catalog. Another issue is home users, who are no longer supported for this version.
If you want to know what your version of Windows is, you can do it by two methods: on the one hand, by pressing the Windows key + I and then click System. Then selecting the About option in the side menu and look for the Version number in the information sheet. The other method is by pressing the start button, typing winver and pressing Enter.
