One of the things I least like when it comes to restoring a device (whether it's a computer or a phone) is having to reload the configurationin the way you had it before. Applications, settings, shortcuts…

Fortunately Over the years operating systems have benefited from new features that allow recovery in a not too complicated from the previous configuration. Either with the system's own utilities or third-party applications, it is increasingly easy to recover the appearance that our equipment had before. This is also the objective of this tutorial in which we explain how to make a copy of the Start Menu on your computer.

We already know how to make a backup copy of applications or the system, but what about the Start Menu? It's very useful especially when we've spent a lot of time customizing that menu with all kinds of modifications. It is about making a _backup_ that we can later load again or even use it on several computers that we have at home.

To do this we will have to go to the system and look for a specific folder. It is about find that folder and make a copy of it so that we save it on an external drive in order to use it later on the same or in another team. Specifically, we have to go to the following route:

"

Where xxxxx is the name we have as user on our computer. Once we have located the directory, we have to make a copy of the Database folder on an external drive (it is recommended if we are going to restore the computer)."

"

Once we have made the copy we only have to use it whenever we want. To do so we will only have to carry out the process in the reverse direction , that is, looking for the previous path and copying the Database file that we have previously saved."

In this way we will recover the appearance and configuration of the Start Menu that we had before, saving time and making our work much less tiring .

If we want to save more copies

And if we want to make a backup copy of the rest of the files, we have two options:

First method.

"

If we use the classic function, we look for the Backup and Restore option in the Control Panel. It is the traditional way, in which later we will have to choose where the backup copy will be generated on the disk and the folders that we want to include. We can even add a system image to have a copy of the operating system."

"

This is the first way and to recover the backup we have to access the same Backup and Restore menu and in In the lower part, click on the Restore Files button."

Second method for making a copy.

This is possibly the fastest method and is based on the use of File History. In this way we will save a copy of the existing files in the Documents, Music, Videos, Desktop files, Contacts and Favorites folders. Only personal files, without the possibility of copying the system.

"

We just have to use the Select unit option, choosing then the location to save the _backup_. We can even choose which folders will be copied."

"Once we have the copy and we want to restore it, we just have to write Restore files with the File History in the search engine and we will see a list with all the files with a backup copy."

As you can see, two simple and almost mandatory steps if we want to maintain the appearance and incidentally the files of our equipment and don't lose them on system restore.
