When Windows 10 won't boot
Table of contents:
When our equipment presents a failure in its operation we always have a handy option to check where the error comes from. It is about accessing Safe Mode in Windows, an option by which the operating system is loaded with the minimum of system files and _drivers_ necessary.
In this way and without the interference of third-party programs, only with the basic functions, you can try to determine what is the reason that poses a problem on your computer. It is the most common way for system troubleshooting or when Windows cannot boot normally. But what happens when our computer doesn't boot?
If the computer boots there is no problem and until now safe mode was accessed by pressing the F8 key and Prepare automatic repair. With Windows 10, we already saw it two days ago, the process can vary a bit, although it is extremely simple. But what if Windows won't boot?
"Forcing the machine"
In this situation the steps are different since we remember, we cannot access Windows. Let's proceed like this:
To force reaching the advanced system recovery options or automatic repair we must reboot our computer several times followed by the combination keys Ctrl + Alt + Delete (Del) or turning power on and off with the power keyIt is about forcing so that we can access the Recovery Options.
This way we should have access but still, it may not be enough. In this case we will have to boot the system from an installation disc, either in optical or USB format.
"Once we have decided the method to use, we can access using the F12 key to choose the boot option or previously configuring the BIOS to access from the chosen boot medium. We will then see a message similar to this one, Press any key to start from the CD or DVD/ USB From that moment on we just have to continue with the instructions onscreen."
Safe Mode Options
Then the system will restart and we will navigate through different windows (Solve problems > Advanced options > Startup configuration > Restart) until we get to restart the team in the way we want, namely:
- Enable safe mode in which the system boots only with essential files and drivers.
- Enable safe mode with network functions as above but allows connection to the network so that we can download files that we may need .
- Enable safe mode with command prompt with which we can access the MS-DOS command window or console.
These are the steps needed to get Windows 10 to start in safe mode and check for errors. The next step, if it doesn't work, may be more drastic and may require a reinstall or system restore if the error is not found.
