With the Microsoft event already in sight, on the 26th, the news in the Redmond company does not stop and now it's time to talk about a new Build, in this case 14942 that has been released via Windows Update for members of the fast ring within the Insider Program.

Build 14942 has been released for Windows 10 on PC and brings a lot of new features, both fixes and some additions that make it more than interesting.

Again and as usual, the person in charge of notifying about the release has been Dona Sarkar through her Twitter account and the best we can do in this case isreview the list that Microsoft gives us with all the news.

These are the novelties that we are going to find:

Hiding the list of applications in the start menu: A new functionality has been released that allows you to collapse the list of applications in the menu beginning.

Photos App Update: The app will now look more attractive and easier to navigate.

  • Photos now has a horizontal navigation bar
  • The new light theme has been added to view your images.
  • new exit and entry animation in Collections view when viewing photos in full screen, you'll notice

Improved accuracy on touchpads: Improvements in detection and disambiguation of left and right clicks, making double clicks or taps more a little easier. Algorithm changes in an effort to reduce inadvertent zooming when dragging with your finger.

Improvements to the update experience on PC: Even if you uninstall one of the pre-installed applications in Windows, this state will now be preserved after update and the application will not be reinstalled.

New icon for Windows Update: A new icon for Windows Update has been introduced to match the rest of the iconography in Windows 10 .

If you have a PC with 3.5 or more GB of RAM, you will notice that the number of processes has increased in Task Manager and have been grouped into processes known as resident services (svchost.exe). Due to the drastic increase in available memory in recent years, the memory saving benefits of resident services have diminished.

Expansion of the default range of Active Hours: Insiders have requested that they be allowed to control the Active Hours used for the PC can reboot to install updates, however, 12 hour range on PC is very limited.

Since Build 14942, this range has been changed for PC in Professional, Enterprise, and Education editions to 18 hours. This means that Insiders using these editions of Windows 10 will now be able to set Active Hours up to 18 hours from the selected time.

Added text to the active hours dialog so that users always know that the default range is the one selected. Also added the ability for the default range to be configured via new group or MDM policies.

Narrator Form Navigation: Form navigation has been introduced in Windows Narrator. The following commands can be used to jump between form fields:

  • F and Shift + F: Jump to the next/previous field
  • C and Shift + C: Jump to next/previous combobox
  • E and Shift + E: Jump to next/previous edit box
  • X and Shift + X: Jump to next/previous checkbox
  • R and Shift + R: Jump to next/previous radio button
  • B and Shift + B: Jump to next/previous button

There is a new view available for form fields. The active view can be changed by pressing Caps Lock and using the up arrows and down to navigate the list of views on your keyboard, or simply move your finger up or down.

Other improvements and fixes for PC:

  • Updated Narrator reading order for Windows 10 apps that display an app bar at the bottom of the app, such as OneDrive.
  • Fixed an issue where running sfc /scannow in an elevated command prompt would fail at 20%.
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in certain areas of Windows 10 app notifications not doing anything when clicked instead of opening the corresponding app.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the Windows Defender Antimalware Service to run sometimes resulting in unexpectedly high CPU usage.
  • Fixed a problem on the Devices and Printers page in the Dashboard.
  • Fixed an issue with NTFS partitions on external hard drive displaying incorrectly and appearing as RAW format.
  • Going forward from Build 14942, custom printer names are preserved across future updates.

Known PC Bugs:

  • Insiders doing web development may have trouble accessing their local network. To solve this we must follow these steps:
  • Execute the following lines in CMD admin mode (or edit the registry accordingly):
  • REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W3SVC /v SvcHostSplitDisable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
  • REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WAS /v SvcHostSplitDisable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
  • Reboot the system so the W3Svc and WAS services should be able to process the Host services.

Have you already installed this Build?_ You can tell us if you want your impressions about it.
