Table of contents:
The road to the big Windows 10 November update is paving. Proof of this is that today Microsoft has published in the Insider program the build 10586 of Windows 10 for PC, which according to Tom Warren would correspond to version candidate to be released next week as a November update for all users."
For Insiders, this build doesn't include major new features compared to the previous public build, but it keeps all the new features that have been been adding to the Insider program over the past few months, such as syncing bookmarks to Edge, improvements to tablet mode, and Skype apps, which will be rolling out to everyone in the coming days.
Bugs fixed in this build
- Resolved issue that caused audio played by Groove Music or similar applications to be reduced in volume by 75% after a notification appeared in Windows Notification Center.
- Pressing the power button on the Surface Pro 3 should now put the computer to sleep (which it should), instead of shutting down (past build bug).
- Resolves an issue that caused a command prompt window to appear randomly.
- Windows now remembers the authentication mode used the last time we logged in. For example, if we log in using a PIN, the next time we turn on the PC, the PIN mode will be displayed again.
- Fix an issue that caused tab previews in Edge to appear black if the tab in question was not showing the top of the page.
- Fixed issue that prevented small 8-inch tablets with portrait primary orientation from upgrading to newer Windows 10 Insider builds.
- Improved the stability of app and game downloads from the Microsoft Store.
Known issues with this build
- After upgrading from another Insider build, Skype messages and contacts will disappear from the Messages + Skype app. To recover them, go to the path
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Messaging_ 8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache in File Explorer, and then delete or rename the PrivateTransportId file. Finally, you have to go to the Skype Video application, sign out, and sign back in.
- The Insider Hub may disappear after upgrading to this build. To retrieve it, go to Settings > System > Apps & Features , and then click Manage optional features > Add a feature > Insider Hub .
As always, to install this new build we need to be registered with a Microsoft account in the Insider program (this can be do from here), be signed in to Windows 10 with that same account, and have Insider fast channel updates turned on, which can be done in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced Options .
