Windows 10 market share continues unstoppable
Today is the first day of September, and that implies that we already have new data of market shares updated for the previous month, thanks to the NetMarketShare and StatCounter sites. This time the figures bring good news for Windows 10, as the operating system has managed to break all records for the speed of adoption of previous versions of Windows.
According to StatCounter, Windows 10 would already have a 4.88% share of use worldwide, thus surpassing the 1% of Windows 8, and 4.05% of Windows 7 that both operating systems, respectively, achieved in their first month of life.
Meanwhile, NetMarketShare's numbers are even better for Microsoft, accounting for a 5.21% share for Windows 10This increase occurs mainly at the expense of Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 7, which fell by a total of 4% compared to the share they had in the month of July.
However, the outlook for Microsoft Edge is not so rosy, with both analytics sites showing relatively low usage share for this browser, even if we consider only Windows 10 users as the universe.
According to StatCounter, only 14% of Windows 10 users are using Microsoft Edge to browse the web, putting it behind Chrome and Firefox in market share. What's worse, quota has been going down for the past few weeks, indicating that many users gave Edge a try, but ended up going back to the browser that they used before.
On the other hand, we must take into account that those who have upgraded to Windows 10 during these first weeks are probably more advanced users, among whom Internet Explorer already had a very low usage quota.
If we add to that the fact that Edge will be making up for its shortcomings (such as the lack of extensions or bookmark synchronization) over the next few weeks, it is possible that the browser will start to rebound in the near future, but that is already in the realm of speculation.
