How to install additional languages in Windows 10 (and switch between them)
Table of contents:
Since its inception, Windows has allowed us to easily change the language of input methods, such as the keyboard, or voice recognition and freehand text. In addition, in newer versions it is also possible to easily change the language of the system interface, just by downloading a language pack.
In Windows 10 all these options are still present, and in fact using them is easier than before thanks to the new interface of the Settings appEven so, there are still users who do not know how to adjust the language of the operating system and related options, so for them we dedicate this little step-by-step guide that explains all the peculiarities of language management in Windows 10.
How to change the interface language, keyboard, voice and handwriting recognition
First of all we must go to the Settings application, and within it to the Time and language section > Region and language. Once there we will see 2 groups of options:
-
Country and region: Defines the type of regional content that we can access. Changing this option will not alter the language of the Windows interface or the input methods, but it can allow us to access special content that is not available in our country (for example, Cortana, Groove Music Pass, movies and television series). TV in store, etc).
-
Languages: This is the section that interests us. Here we can see which languages are currently installed, and which options are active for each of them.
For each language, the options that can be downloaded and activated are as follows:
- Language to show
- Spell check
- Recognition of handwritten text
- Keyboard
- Speech recognition
Note: Some rare languages do not offer all of these options.
To add a new language simply press the button + Add a language in the aforementioned section. Then the language to add is chosen, which should already appear in the list of available languages in the Settings app."
However, there are still additional steps to download the package and activate its options:
"First you have to select the language in the list and press the Options button."
- In the language options window we will probably see that the spelling and text recognition options are already being downloaded automatically. The language keyboard layout should also be available out of the box.
-
"
However, the voice recognition options and the language pack for the Windows interface are not downloaded immediately. If we want to use them, we must press the respective Download buttons."
-
Once these last 2 options have been downloaded, we can activate the voice recognition of the new language by going to Settings > Time and language > Voice .
"Finally, to change the language of the Windows interface, go back to Settings > Time and language > Region and language , then select the language you want to activate and press the Set as default button. "
To make effective the use of a new language in the Windows interface it is necessary to close our session and reopen it. With this the system will show us all the buttons and menus using the new selected language:
