Improvements in tablet mode

We recently told you that Microsoft had just released build 10547 of Windows 10 for Insider program users, which you can now download following the instructions that we mentioned in the same note. This build succeeds the previous build 10532 which was released at the end of August.
What has Microsoft been working on since then? What cool features does this new build include? The main novelty seems to be improvements in tablet mode , resolving some inconsistencies that exist in the current version of Windows 10, and allowing us to switch applications more efficiently.
Specifically, the problem that is solved has to do with the snap or split screen mode Currently when we use 2 applications side by side side in tablet mode, and we invoke the application switcher, the screen division disappears, and the new application we select appears in full screen."
But starting with build 10547 this is resolved: when selecting a new app from the app switcher screen division is maintainedand we are allowed to choose in which section of the screen we want the new application to be displayed (that is, the same behavior that Windows 8.1 offered).
More live tiles in the Start menu
Another major change is the ability to display more live tiles on the Start menu or screenThis is achieved thanks to a new option in Settings > Personalization > Home that allows you to display up to 4 columns within a group of tiles on the Start menu.
According to Microsoft, this change responds to the request of many users to be able to use 2 wide or large tiles side by side within the same group. With the new build of Windows 10 this is already possible.
Improvements in Photos and other applications
This Windows 10 build includes new versions of the Photos, Mail and Calendar apps, Xbox, Groove Music and more. Among the novelties of these updates, the possibility of using image folders in the Photos app stands out, as well as the new functions of the Xbox app.
"Most of these updates should also be available in the stable version>"
Other improvements
-
It is now possible to turn off the background image on the login screen (this image) and display a flat color on your place. Until now to do this it was necessary to edit the Windows registry, but now it will be enough to go to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen . Unfortunately, it is still not allowed to change the default image to another image .
-
Includes a preview of the Object RTC APIs in Microsoft Edge, which allow you to stream audio and video content in real time without the need for plug-ins (this will make it easier to use Skype Web).
-
"
There are improvements to the virtual keyboard and freehand text input panel The panel now automatically expands when we need more space to write, and it does not appear on the screen when we have a keyboard connected or we are working in desktop mode.Word suggestions and punctuation suggestions have also been improved."
-
Using automatic wallpaper switching now allows backgrounds to change randomly, instead of using order that appears in the folder.
-
This is important: You can now use Cortana with a local Windows account.
Bug fixes and known errors
These are the problems that are fixed with respect to the previous build :
- Disappears a lot of error messages that used to occur when using the Start menu.
- Resolved issues with Cortana Start menu integration.
- The battery info box no longer shows truncated text.
- Resolved issues with audio on multiple devices, especially Re altek devices.
And these are the known bugs in the current build:
- Language packs are not available yet but should be by tomorrow.
- In some cases Store applications are not updated automatically, but we must force the update by going to Store > click on profile picture > Downloads and updates > Check for updates .
- There are permission errors when trying to open files with Notepad from the command line. This will be resolved in future builds of Windows 10, but in the meantime we can open the files using the graphical interface of notepad.
- By clicking very quickly on the system icons in the notification tray, Windows will block the appearance of boxes with options for audio, networks, etc. This can be fixed by rebooting the system.
- Windows Update will display a warning message about new Insider builds, but for now it should be ignored. Microsoft wants to implement a new feature to detect and resolve issues that prevent new builds from being downloaded, but it is not fully implemented at this time.
Finally, Microsoft informs us about the launch of a new forum designed exclusively for gamers within the Insider program, and in which You can ask/offer help, ask questions and give your opinion regarding problems with Windows 10 builds related to video games.
With the occasional presence of engineers from Intel, AMD, and nVidia, this forum is expected to be a useful place to find answers and discuss the Windows 10 gaming experience .
