This is how the Windows 10 Storage Usage application works
Table of contents:
One of the most useful tools Microsoft has added to its new Windows 10 is Storage Usage. With this option we will be able to discover in a very visual way which are the elements that are taking up the most space on the hard disk, having the option of reviewing each one of the sections and remove what we don't need.
Accessing this tool is easy, we just have to enter the Windows 10 configuration panel and click on System. Once there, click on the storage section. Then we will be able to see how much free space we have on each of our hard drives, and it will be enough to click on one of them to access the storage usage.
What can we do in Storage Usage?
In this section we can see what type of files are taking up the space on our hard drive, and we will be given absolute control over all of them , from games and applications to temporary, music, maps or even our synchronized OneDrive folder. In fact, with each type of file we will be offered some specific options.
In the list of file type sections, System and Reserved will appear first, within which we can find out about all the details about the space occupied by our system files, memory virtual or system restore files. In this section we will also have the option to manage system restoration, with which we can create restore points or go back to a previously created point.
If we click on the applications and games section, we will be listed all the software we have installed on the computer, ordered by the number of space they occupy. In this section we will be able to search for a specific program or order them by other parameters, and we will also be given the option to directly uninstall each of them.
We will also have information about files such as music or photos on our system, being able to directly access their folders to manage them. The same thing happens with email and cloud storage accounts whose synchronized accounts or folders we will also have the option to modify.
Lastly we will also have access to the temporary files section, from where we can delete them or access and modify the download folder. As you can see, with this storage use section we will have all the necessary tools to free up space on each of our hard drives or partitions.
