An important feature that was introduced by Windows 8 and is also present in Windows 10 is the lock screen This is a view that appears after turning on the computer, or waking it from sleep, and is intended to hide the login screen or desktop, in the same way as lock screens do on mobile phones and tablets.

As an added bonus, this screen can also display useful information at a glance, without us having to log in or enter our password. Many users do not know how to customize these options, and thus make the information provided more useful. That's why here we will teach step by step to configure and customize this screen.

Lock screen customization options can be found in the Settings app (accessible from the Start menu). When opening it we must go to section Personalization and then, within it, to section Lock screen

From there we have at our fingertips almost all the customization options for the lock screen, including the possibility of change the background imageof this, either by another image, or by a presentation (slideshow) of multiple images that change automatically.

If we scroll down we will see 2 additional options, one that allows us to display information and suggestions provided by Microsoft, and another that allows set apps to display additional information on the lock screen.

The latter is probably the most useful for us, since it will allow us to define exactly what kind of information we want to display and what not.

"The section is divided into 2 categories: one where we choose an application (only one) to display detailed information, and another where we can choose up to 7 applications to display more summarized information. "

The detailed information consists of up to 3 lines of text whose content is defined by the application itself. For example, the Weather app can show the forecast for the next few days, a Tasks app can show the next 2 to-dos, or the Calendar app can show the subject and time of the next event.

The summary informationconsists simply of a number accompanying to the app icon. This number generally corresponds to unread items or pending notifications (for example, unread mail, number of pending tasks, or number of calendar events due tomorrow ). In the case of a weather application the number can also correspond to the current temperature.

Having this difference clear, we simply have to define which applications we want to show us each type of information.
