Many people like to fully customize the appearance of the operating system they use, and for this reason we have already discussed some tricks to achieve this. greater visual customization in Windows 10, such as being able to change the color of windows, or changing the logon screen image.

Today we bring you another similar trick, which helps us to activate the dark mode of Windows 10, which is deactivated by default. It should be noted that this trick requires modifying the Windows registry, so it is highly recommended to create a restore point and/or a registry backup before following the next steps.

"The first thing to do is to open the Windows registry, which can be done by typing regedit in the Cortana/Start Menu search box, and clicking on the first result that will appear. "

Then you have to navigate in the folder panel on the left to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Themes

  • When we get to the Themes folder we should see inside it another folder/key named Personalize . If we can't find it, we must create it.

  • "To create the Personalize key, right-click on the Themes key in the right panel and select the New > Key option. Finally we assign the name Personalize>"

Select the Personalize key in the left panel and then go to the Edit menu > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.

  • This will create a new DWORD value under the Personalize key, and display it in the right-hand pane. There we must rename the value to AppsUseLightTheme.

  • "We must verify that AppsUseLightTheme is assigned the value 0. By default this should be so, but if not, we can modify it by right clicking, pressing Modify>"

Later, we return to the panel on the left and from there we navigate to the following route:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Themes > Personalize

  • "Once there, you have to repeat the previous steps and create a DWORD value inside the folder/key Personalize>"

  • The DWORD value created here must also have the name AppsUseLightTheme, and must also be assigned the value 0. The final result should be be something like this:

Finally, all that remains is to close the Windows registry, close our session and open it again (it is not necessary to restart the PC completely) and that's it, the dark theme is already active.

Unfortunately, and to the disappointment of many, this dark theme does not apply to all applications in Windows 10, but only in the system ones, such as Settings, Calculator, Alarms and the Store.

Applying the dark theme in Microsoft Edge and Groove Music

If we want to maximize the presence of the dark theme in Windows 10, we must take into account that there are 2 important apps in which it can/should be activated separately. These are player Groove Music and browser Microsoft Edge

"

To activate the dark theme in Groove you have to open the Settings of the app, by clicking on the gear icon in the corner bottom left, and then scroll down until you find the Backgroundsection, where you can toggle between dark theme and light theme."

In Microsoft Edge it can also be activated very easily, just click on the 3-dot icon (in the upper right corner), then select Settingsin the menu that will appear, and within Settings change the theme in the section ">
