After having released build 10122 for Fast Ring users just 11 days ago, yesterday Microsoft released a new build of Windows 10 , 10130, which is now available to Insiders users subscribed to said channel.
Microsoft warns us that, as the Windows 10 release date gets closer, both this and future builds will include less and less new features in terms of functions, and more minor tweaks, bug fixes, and performance improvements, so the general public can enjoy a slicker, faster, and more reliable system by the time of general availability.
News in the interface: new icons and other minor changes
Based on the feedback given by the old set of Windows 10 icons (which was quite criticized among the user community), Microsoft has developed new icons , hoping we like those.
These icons were already present in the leaked build 10125, but this is the first time they have appeared in a publicly released build. Microsoft claims that they represent a middle ground between the complexity and realism of the Aero icons, and the excessive simplicity of previous Windows 10 icons.
Along with this, there are also other minor interface and usability changes:
New animations displayed on the taskbar when performing tasks such as moving or downloading files, or when using certain start menu items.
-
"
- Action Center border removed>"
The Universal Photos app adds support for the albums feature, which automatically organizes photos.
- The settings application adds more customization options for the Start Menu From here it will be possible to choose if the start menu starts on screen complete (or not) when we work in desktop mode. You can also choose which items will be displayed in the lower left section of the menu.
Jump Lists now offer a new layout, which is more consistent with the rest of the system.
-
Improvements in Continuum. Now, when working in tablet mode, it is possible to use the ">" gesture
-
The shortcut key WIN + C is now used to invoke speech recognition in Cortana (in Windows 8.1 this shortcut took us to the charms bar).
"The virtual printer for PDFs is now called Microsoft Print to PDF."
What's new in Microsoft Edge
"In this build the Microsoft browser still appears under the name Spartan, which should change in future releases. What it does include other new features, such as the possibility of pinning/unpinning side panels, such as the reading list, bookmarks, downloads or the Cortana panel."
In addition, printing options and the address bar interface are improved For its part, reading view adds support for new types of content, and displays correctly in new configurations of window sizes and screen orientations.
Lastly, we resolve issues that were in Edge/Spartan with playing videos in full screen.
Taskbar and multiple desktops
"In previous builds 2 different configurations were introduced for the taskbar: a global bar>"
Based on user feedback, Microsoft has decided that the default experience will be the filtered taskbar, which will take effect from this build 10130.
However, the global taskbar will still be available in system options. To activate it we simply have to go to the Configuration application > System > Multitasking > Virtual desktops .
Known bugs in this build
As always, as this is a preview version of Windows, this new build comes with some bugs that Microsoft hopes to fix in future builds, or through specific updates. Among these failures are the following:
-
The File Explorer and Settings icons disappear from the start menu after upgrading from build 10122. This can be fixed using the new start menu configuration options, in which the presence of such items can be manually restored.
-
The mail app sometimes crashes due to memory issues, and at other times it doesn't sync mail when it's working in the background . Both issues should be resolved soon by an update from Windows Update.
-
There may also be issues with taskbar popups, such as Cortana, battery info, calendar, or Action Center. These errors prevent the boxes from opening, but Microsoft says that if we retry several times the boxes should open. As in the previous case, Microsoft plans to release an update via Windows Update to correct this bug.
-
Wi-Fi connectivity can sometimes fail, requiring a system reboot to get it working again.
