As expected from yesterday's leaks, today Microsoft released a new build of Windows 10 for participants of the program Insider, both on the Fast Ring and Slow Ring channels.
In fact, the published build corresponds exactly to the same one that was leaked yesterday, 10074. And being available in Slow Ring , can also be downloaded in the format of ISO image, which is great news for anyone who prefers to install these builds in clean install mode.
What's new in Windows 10 build 10074
"First of all, we have the anticipated return of Aero Glass, which comes with a few buts. Microsoft wants to know how well this visual style is being received by users, so they will use build 10074 as an A/B test: half of users will see Aero Glass in the Start menu, half won&39;t. "
Depending on the feedback received, Microsoft will decide whether or not to extend the use of Aero Glass to other parts of the operating system, or whether to convert it in the default style of Windows 10. The 3D rotation effect is also adopted for the live tiles, as we had anticipated yesterday.
Improvements in Continuum and displays with high pixel density
Historically the support provided by Windows for screens with high pixel density has been mediocre, that's why with Windows 10 Microsoft is working hard to fix that aspectIn this build we see further progress in that direction, even getting the interface to display more appropriately when using multiple monitors with different DPI.
There are also enhancements to tablet mode of Continuum. Now closing an app in that mode will take you to the Start screen, instead of the desktop. In addition, when pinning applications to the sides of the screen, an intermediate dividing line will be displayed that will be used to readjust the space assigned to each window (as it already happens in Windows 8).
Cortana with new features and integrated into the Start menu
Another of the improvements we mentioned yesterday is confirmed: Cortana receives an update to its design, which makes it more visually integrated into the Start menu. It also adds a left vertical bar, offering quick access to options like song detection and Cortana's Notebook. This bar also includes the famous (and controversial) hamburger menu, which is already present in almost all Windows 10 applications.
Along with this, the Microsoft assistant integrates new functions, which apparently were not available in Windows 10 until now, such as the possibility to show weather forecasts , stock prices, word definitions, unit conversions, and even provide quick information about our own PC, such as available disk space or our IP address.
Store improvements, music and video apps and more
"Music and videobeta applications are updated including mainly interface improvements . For example, in the music app the now playing view>"
The functions of downloading content from the video store are also improved. This now allows you to re-download purchased content on up to 3 devices linked to our account, or authorized by us, and will soon allow you to link even more devices.
Also, a new version of the Xbox application is included, whose main novelty is the support for recording clips from games of pc. We discuss the rest of its novelties in this article.
Finally, the new Windows Store (also known as Windows Store beta) improves its functionality, by being able to recognize applications that we have already bought in the Windows 8 store and allow us to re-download them more easily In addition, its live tile changes color, becoming blue instead of gray, and also expands to more markets, including Venezuela, Bolivia, Panama, Puerto Rico and Paraguay.
Bug fixes and known issues
As in every new version of the Technical Preview , build 10074 provides solution to several of the problems that existed in previous builds, but it also remains with other unresolved bugs.
Among the errors already fixed are:
- You can now run desktop applications from the Start menu again (in build 10061 this was not possible).
- You can also download music from the Music app preview
- Modern apps that play audio no longer pause when minimized
On the other hand, developer mode for testing applications cannot be enabled yet. There are also issues with PC games not being able to run in full screen, and the contacts app crashing when trying to use it.
Hopefully, all of these issues will be resolved by Windows Update patches before the next build arrives.
