Write!
It's hard to concentrate and write without indulging in all the distractions that come with working on a computer connected to the Internet. In these same pages I already tried to propose several solutions in the form of minimalist text editors that could help in such an arduous task, but for one reason or another always I ended up leaving them. Until I discovered Write!
Write! is a text editor for Windows that aims to do just that, help us stay focused on writing. And it does this by being a simple but powerful desktop application, so anyone with a Windows PC, laptop or tablet (not RT) will be able to use it.Even more so now that Microsoft seems determined to bring back the desktop with Windows 10.
What does Write! that other minimalist text editors don't have? First of all, that it is true minimalist A blank screen bordered by a top bar will be the only thing we see when opening the window. And if we use the full screen mode, not even said bar will be visible. Unless we move the mouse closer to the upper edge, at which point it will reappear showing a tab for each text file that we have open and a menu button that allows access to the typical file, editing, view and help options.
But the good thing is that, despite being minimalist, it offers multiple functionalities and really useful tools for daily writing. By clicking with the right mouse button we will be able to access part of them, including a good number of font formatting options, colours, direct access to searches on sites like Wikipedia, and even a complete spell checker in various languages.
Not only that, but hidden at the bottom of the screen we will also find statistics such as the number of words or characters that we have written , along with additional information about the extension required for certain uses, such as writing an email, a blog post, or a Facebook or Twitter post. And so there are many other details to be thankful for, including the fact that the editor supports markup languages like Markdown
I could continue detailing the benefits of Write!, but the best thing is that you try it with your own hands. Because another advantage is that it's completely free, although, yes, it's still in beta versionand from time to time we may experience an occasional closure. That and the fact that the interface is only available in English are, perhaps, the two biggest drawbacks of what for me is already the best minimalist text editor available for Windows.Judge for yourselves.
