Windows 10 will have native support for MKV and 2-factor authentication
Enhancements continue to appear for new releases of Windows 10 Tech Preview not officially documented by Microsoft. If we told you a couple of days ago that the recently released Windows 10 build 9860 included the DataSense and Battery Saver functions, today we found out that it also offers native support for MKV videos
"This means that Windows 10 is capable of playing that format out-of-the-box , without installing any codec or additional software Of course, for now the system continues to show an alert when trying to play this type of video, indicating that the format is supposedly not supported, but if we click on the option to try to play anyway, the video is displayed without problems in Windows Media Player."
Along with this, Microsoft has officially announced another enhancement that will be incorporated in future builds: native 2-factor authentication, again without requiring any additional software.
This seeks to satisfy the demand for greater security measures by companies, and also to make available to final consumers a protection modality that is growing every day due to its lower vulnerability to fraudulent access attempts.
When activating this authentication system, it will not be enough to enter the password to access the contents of the equipment, but also you will have to enter a second verification element , which can be a code sent to a verified device (such as a smartphone) or a biometric credential such as a fingerprint. In this scenario, whoever wants to fraudulently access the account information will have to have not only the access code, but also the physical device associated with the account."
There will also be flexibility regarding the type of accounts to use with this system, since 2-step authentication will support Microsoft Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, and Microsoft accounts for users we all know .
As if that were not enough, a protection system will also be implemented for the second step> (the code that is sent to a second device), thus preventing access to this fraudulently."
And of course, the operation of the authentication in 2 steps will be optional for the user, so if we want to continue accessing our teams with the simple password of a lifetime.Of course, we still do not know when this security measure will be implemented, but since it is a feature aimed at companies and the current Tech Preview is precisely aimed at that audience, it is not unreasonable to think that 2-step authentication will appear before Consumer Preview is released.
