Microsoft officially announces August Update for Windows 8.1
As we told you yesterday, the call Windows 8.1 Update 2 is just around the corner. If before we had abundant rumors that it would come to light next Tuesday, August 12, now we have received the official confirmation of that date by Microsoft itself ."
"Through an entry on the official Windows blog they tell us the details about this update, which they prefer not to call Update 2 because it is not an update of the same level as Update 1 in terms of quantity and importance of novelties. In fact, they say they won&39;t be releasing any more Updates like that, but will instead release smaller improvements but more frequently, using the Windows monthly update process. "
"Therefore, the famous Update 2 of Windows 8.1 is really only the August update, being at the same level as the May update that brought new features to the Windows Store, or the one from June which added more sync options to OneDrive (implying, therefore, that we can expect more such updates for the rest of the Windows 8.1 lifecycle)."
But what exactly is new in this August update? First of all, 3 configuration options are added for the use of touchpads on notebooks: leave the touchpad working when connecting a mouse, allow right-click, and allow double-tap then drag. Apparently these options can be activated and deactivated from the Control Panel. We know that many manufacturers already included controls like these, but it never hurts to have them built directly into Windows.
Support is also added to using the PC as a Miracast receiver natively. And finally, SharePoint Online users will now have the option to stay signed in when accessing SharePoint sites, to avoid being prompted to enter their username and password over and over again.
However, Microsoft mentions that these are just some of the new things that will come along with the August update, so there could be other changes that are not mentioned here, but are probably less relevant .
As we have already informed you, this update will arrive from Tuesday, August 12 through Windows Update, and will apply to Windows Server 2012 R2 as well.
