How to turn off the Start/Unlock screen in Windows 8 and 8.1

Table of contents:

Anonim

If you are a user ofWindows 8 surely you know the start screen /unlock that appears when you turn on or resume your device. From this screen you will go to the one that will ask you for your account password or in case of working as a local user you will not be asked for anything and you will access the desktop or Modern UI interface, depending on what you have configured.

Depending on how the computer is used, this screen can become a nuisance and there is no natural way to deactivate it by following the traditional Windows 8 / 8 configuration sections.1. That is why from Xataka Windows we show you two different methods with which you can get deactivatethat screen.

Windows 8 / 8.1 Registry editing method

This method is probably the simpler and more straightforward of the two as long as we've already edited the Windows registry at some point.

To do this we look for regedit.exe :

And we run it with administrator permissions and once inside we will see a kind of file manager with folder navigation. You will have to reach the folder:

Once inside we will have to create a new password, clicking with the right mouse button on the right side and clicking on the new password that we will call Personalization .

Within it we will create a new 32-bit DWORD value with Hexadecimal base and name NoLockScreen . The value it should have is 1 . The value 1 is to disable the display and the value 0 would enable it again.

Once this is done, we recommend reviewing the names entered as the registry is case sensitive. After that, we close the registry editor, restart the computer and we will see how we go directly to the password screen or to the Modern UI or Desktop interface if we have configured our team locally, without a password.

Editing Method of Local Group Policies

This method is simpler than the previous one a priori but it brings with it a flaw that we will have to solve a posteriori, the synchronization between devices.

Open the Local Group Policies editor in administrator mode, looking for: gpedit.msc

After that we will have to navigate through the different folders following the following path:

Once inside you will see the option Do not display lock screen , double click on it to open the properties and change the option from Not Configured to Enabled and press the OK button.

This change has an immediate result so you don't need to restart to see how it works, lock your session (Windows key + L) and you will see how the unlock screen no longer appears.

Now we have to solve the problem of data synchronization and SkyDrive since when changing that policy, by default and for security, synchronization is deactivated. To reactivate it you will have to go to PC Settings -> Change PC Settings -> SkyDrive and open the Synchronization options.

From there you can check the synchronization options that you have active and under Customization Options you can decide what type of configurations to synchronize from devices.

As you can see, it is a simple action that will avoid us having to go through that screen every time we turn on or unlock the equipment that informs us of the time, the battery and/or connection to the network and little plus.
