Windows 8.1 up close
Table of contents:
I'm going to continue the “Windows 8.1 Up Close” series by focusing on configuring what we want our PC to do automatically when it detects a device that has playable content .
So I continue with the downward navigation of the PC and devices sub-menu tour, which I continued in the last article dealing with the startup and shutdown options
Open, View, Import, or Play
To get to the configuration panel, where I will access the “Autoplay” menu, I must follow the steps described in the second article in the series, which deals with how to open the control panel.
Here the first option I have is to enable or disable automatic playback, that is, the actions that I indicate to be carried out when it detects a device with multimedia content or of a special type.
I see below several drop-down listings for generic device types: Removable Drive and Memory Card.
For the first device, have the option to Open the file explorer to be able to examine the content stored in the Removable Drive (an HD, a DVD, etc). A very interesting option, but little used, is to configure the removable drive as a backup device. Finally, as in all devices, we can indicate that it does not perform any action automatically.
When what I insert into my computer or tablet is a memory card (an SD, for example), the options are many more.I can import photos and videos, or directly play them. Also certain applications introduce their automatic reproduction actions in this drop-down list, so in my case it offers me to download the images directly in Photoshop, or see the images in the Gallery Windows.
In fact, among the devices that I have configured is my mobile phone, where it allows me to move things between the Smartphone and my computer , synchronize multimedia files automatically, or the rest of the actions that are generic for all devices.
Personally, my preference is between opening Windows Explorer, or doing nothing . The rest seem somewhat invasive to me, but surely more than a few people will find them very useful.
I hope you find it useful and simple.
