Changing the number of rows of tiles on our Windows 8 start screen
The legacy Windows Phone tiles that populate the Windows 8 Start screen can be resized, rearranged, or grouped to your liking. But apart from that, and without taking third-party programs into account, the start screen does not offer many more possibilities, at least directly. Of course, there is a small modification of the Windows registry that allows us to set the maximum number of rows and thus reduce the number of tiles that appear on the screen.
The modification is trivial but requires modifying the Windows registry. To do this we look for and execute regedit.exe in our Windows 8. In the registry window that will open we look for the following location among the folders in the left column:
The different values to be configured will appear on the screen on the right. It is likely that the one we need to edit does not appear by default, so we will have to create it by accessing the Edit registry menu. There we select New and the option DWORD Value (32 bits) A new element will appear among the rest of the options in the Grid folder. We rename it as Layout_MaximumRowCount and double click on it to edit its value.
You will see an editing box like the one in the image. In the box of Value information we put the number of rows of tiles that we want between 1 and 5 10.With the minimum values in principle you should not have problems, but the maximum number of rows will work depending on the size and resolution of the screen. To finish we mark the Base as Decimal and accept.
With this we would have everything ready and we can close the record. For the changes to take effect it is necessary to log out Once we open it again, the number of rows of tiles on our home screen will have changed to the value we have set in register.
By default Windows 8 selects a number of rows according to the screen size and resolution, generally the highest possible, but with this small and simple modification, each one can configure it to their liking without too many difficulties or additional programs.
