Edge for Linux getting closer: Microsoft already has the version ready to download in the Beta Channel
Table of contents:
Microsoft Edge is available for Windows 10, macOS, Android and iOS and in the case of the first three even offering access to development channel versions. And now Linux is the system preparing to receive a stable version of Edge that should arrive before the end of the year while watching a new version arrive on the Beta Channel
For months we had news about the availability at the end of the year of the Linux versions of Edge. We've even seen a version of Linux appear running, although for now we have to settle for a Beta version of the browser.
Coming soon to computers
Unlike other systems, Linux was a non-existent platform for Microsoft, which had not launched any of its browsers (neither Internet Explorer nor the old Edge) on this system. And after having a version for developers on the Edge Insider channel, the version is expected to arrive on the Stable Channel
Like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge is offered in four channels: Stable, Beta, Dev, and Canary, options that in the case of Linux are limited to the Dev Channel and now also, to Beta.
Until now a version could be downloaded on the Dev Channel and now a new one is added on the Beta Channel, which indicates a favorable evolution of the new development A Beta version that adds a number of new features and tools for users.
Like the Dev version, the Beta version of Edge for Linux is compatible with all popular distributions, such as Ubuntu, Debian , OpenSUSE and Fedora.
The new version already offers previously non-existent features such as the synchronization features of Microsoft services, including bookmarks, history, and passwords so that we will have this data in the Linux version.
In addition, Microsoft plans to maintain Beta and Dev versions on Linux with the same cadence of releases and enhancements coming to Windows 10 and macOS . The Beta Channel version will have weekly updates and the Beta version every six weeks.
"For the arrival of the stable version we will still have to wait, but if you want to try the Beta version now you can do so by downloading it from this link or or starting Terminal> to install Edge Beta ."
