Microsoft continues to release improvements to make Edge an engaging browser for users. The latest update in the intermediate channel, that is, in the Dev Channel, brings Edge to version 85.0.531.1 with the build that can now be downloaded from the official website.
Edge has grown in presence since it was launched on January 15, with more and more users turning to Chromium-based Edge as their primary browser. Now with this update, Microsoft improves navigation by preloading certain pages, saving precious seconds throughout the day. This is the changelog:
New functions
- Added a setting that allows preloading of certain web pages for faster browsing and searching.
Other improvements
- Fixed an issue on macOS that could cause new installations of Edge to sometimes crash at launch.
- Fixed an issue where closing the browser too soon after importing data from another browser could sometimes cause a crash. "
- Fix a bug where pasting content when Data Protection>, could cause the tab to crash."
- Fixes an issue where trying to restart Edge on Mac to apply an update displays an error message instead of refresh the browser.
Changed behavior
- Fix a bug where tabs would sometimes appear at their minimum width, even when there was room for them to be larger .
- Fix a bug where scrolling down a page would sometimes cause it to go back to the top.
- Fix an issue where unpinning and re-pinning Edge to the taskbar sometimes creates the wrong profile shortcut .
- Fixed a bug where the menu button sometimes disappears in small window sizes.
- Fixes a bug on macOS where the Shy UI sometimes disappears while you interact with it.
- Fix an issue where the highlighted word sometimes did not match with what was being dictated when reading PDFs aloud .

- Fixes an issue where the default printer is sometimes forgotten or reset.
- Fixed an issue where the immersive reader toolbar would sometimes disappear when the window is not wide enough.
- Fixes an issue where translating content in Immersive Reader sometimes leaves grammar marks from the previous language on the page.
- Fixes a bug where Youtube videos embedded in web pages were not displayed in Immersive Reader when they should be. "
- Fixed an issue where clicking the Sign In Full> button until the browser is restarted."
- Fix an issue where Application Guard windows sometimes fail to get proxy settings applied correctly.
Known Issues
- Users of Kaspersky Internet Suite with the associated extension installed may sometimes see web pages such as Gmail not loading. This error is caused by the fact that Kaspersky's core software is outdated and therefore can be fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
- Some users are seeing duplicate bookmarks after some previous fixes in that area. The most common way to trigger this is by installing Edge's stable channel and then signing in with an account that is already signed in to Edge. Fixing this should be easier now that the deduplication tool is available. However, duplication has also been seen when running the deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has had a chance to fully sync their changes, so while we wait for some of the fixes they've made to make it to Stable , make sure you leave plenty of time between runs of the deduplicator. We hope this will improve now that version 81 is released to stable.
- After an initial fix recently, some users are still experiencing Edge windows turning completely black.Opening the browser's Task Manager (keyboard shortcut is shift + esc) and killing the GPU process usually fixes it. Note that this only seems to affect users with certain hardware and is most easily triggered by resizing an Edge window. "
- Some users see wobble behavior>"
- There are some issues where users with multiple audio output devices sometimes do not receive any sound from Edge. In one case, Edge is muted in Windows Volume Mixer and turning it on fixes it. In another, restarting the browser fixes it.
Remember that this version already shows the improvements that have previously been tested within the Canary Channel. You can now download the new Edge at this link on any of the channels on the platforms on which it is available. If you already have it installed, just go to preferences within the browser and check if you have any pending updates.
