If there is something that Microsoft has achieved with the new Edge, it is to convince many users to try their browser and a good part also choose to do so within one of the three development channels. Canary, Dev, or Beta, offers early access to new features later released in the global version

And now we are going to know what are the new features that Microsoft has introduced in version 84.0.522.5 of Edge in the Dev Channel. A build that provides support for reading aloud PDF documents, for full page translation in Immersive Reader that we already saw on the Canary channel, or the ability to force dark mode for web content.

New functions

  • Added support for Reading PDF files aloud.
  • Now supports full page translation in immersive reading mode.
  • The possibility has been added that the text saved in a Collection returns us to the location on the web page from which it comes.
  • "
  • Added support for mode Force dark mode for web content."
  • Enabled Shy UI on Mac.
  • Added support for the F6 key to change focus on Mac.

Other improvements

  • Fixes an issue where certain types of HEVC videos would not play correctly.
  • Fixed an issue that caused web pages with videos to sometimes crash.
  • "
  • Fixes an issue where when trying to save an edited PDF the Save As dialog box appears each time it is saved to instead of saving it without issuing a warning."
  • Fixed an issue where the Find on Page popup sometimes gets stuck and cannot be interacted with.
  • Fix an issue where history entries in the Jumplist are sometimes not cleared after closing the browser when the history is set to clear on close.
  • Fixed a bug whereby favorites in the favorites bar.
  • Fixed a bug where extensions that allow you to set keyboard shortcuts cannot change those shortcuts at edge://extensions/shortcuts.
  • Fixes an issue where autocomplete popups sometimes appear when they shouldn't with incorrect suggestions.
  • Fixes an issue where browser profiles associated with a work or school account are sometimes unintentionally disconnected or deleted.
  • "Fixed an issue on Mac where languages on the Language Settings page could sometimes not be selected for Offer to translate pages in this language."
  • Fix an issue where starting reading aloud on certain pages leaves Edge in a state where the that you can't stop reading aloud even though there is nothing to read.

Known Issues

  • Tabs sometimes seem crowded or too small, even when there are only a few. This is most often caused by clicking a link in a different program that opens a new tab in Edge, and can usually be fixed by resizing the tab strip, for example by resizing the window.
  • Users of Kaspersky Internet Suite with the associated extension installed may sometimes see web pages such as Gmail not loading. This error is caused by the fact that Kaspersky's core software is outdated and therefore can be fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
  • Some users are seeing duplicate bookmarks after some previous fixes in that area. The most common way to trigger this is by installing Edge's stable channel and then signing in with an account that is already signed in to Edge.Fixing this should be easier now that the deduplication tool is available. However, duplication has also been seen when running the deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has had a chance to fully sync their changes, so while we wait for some of the fixes they've made to make it to Stable , make sure you leave plenty of time between runs of the deduplicator. We hope this will improve now that version 81 is released to Stable.
  • After an initial fix recently, some users are still experiencing Edge windows turning completely black. Opening the browser's Task Manager (keyboard shortcut is shift + esc) and killing the GPU process usually fixes it. Note that this only seems to affect users with certain hardware and is most easily triggered by resizing an Edge window.
  • "
  • Some users see wobble behavior>"
  • There are some issues where users with multiple audio output devices sometimes do not receive any sound from Edge. In one case, Edge is muted in Windows Volume Mixer and turning it on fixes it. In another, restarting the browser fixes it.

Remember that this version already shows the improvements that have previously been tested within the Canary Channel. You can now download the new Edge at this link on any of the channels on the platforms on which it is available. If you already have it installed, just go to preferences within the browser and check if you have any pending updates.
