Edge is updated on the Dev Channel: Collections improvements and warnings when downloading potentially dangerous files arrive

It's time to talk, like every week and periodically, about an update within the Dev channel of the new Chromium-based Edge. Microsoft Edge Dev is updated to version 84.0.508.0, a version that can be downloaded within the Dev Channel, the next in the list of updates to the Canary Channel.

An update that offers, among other new features, the possibility of adding more content to the collections in the form, for example, of text notes or warnings when we download files that may be dangerous.News that come along with improvements and corrections that we are now reviewing

New functions

• You can now add text notes to specific items in a Collection.
• You can change the color of general notes.
• If a file may be dangerous, Edge will warn us before proceeding with the download.

Other improvements

• Fixed an issue where running the favorites deduplicator could crash the browser.
• Fixes an issue where clearing browsing data sometimes loses some items.
• Fixed an issue where the address bar in new tabs was sometimes filled with old search terms instead of being empty.
• Fixed an issue where InPrivate windows would sometimes crash for Family Safety users, even though they shouldn't be.
• Fixed a bug that caused credential prompts to sometimes not display.
• Fixes an issue where adding certain language packs to Windows caused Edge spell checking to be disabled due to a bug Error downloading spell check files.
• Fix a bug where enabling extension sync sometimes causes extensions to no longer be installed from the store Chrome web because the setting to do so is inadvertently turned off.

• Fixed an issue where extensions that have been synced from one installation to another sometimes cannot be removed from the installation they were synced with.

• Fixed a bug on macOS where the Touch Bar media scrubber sometimes doesn't appear on pages that have media.
• Fixed an issue where toggling text spacing options in Immersive Reader while line focus mode is already active causes the current focus area to look cluttered.

Known Issues

• Tabs sometimes seem crowded or too small, even when there are only a few. This is most often caused by clicking a link in a different program that opens a new tab in Edge, and can usually be fixed by resizing the tab strip, for example by resizing the window.
• Users of Kaspersky Internet Suite with the associated extension installed may sometimes see web pages such as Gmail not loading. This error is caused by Kaspersky's core software being outdated and therefore can be fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
• Some users are seeing duplicate bookmarks after some previous fixes in that area. The most common way to trigger this is by installing Edge's stable channel and then signing in with an account that is already signed in to Edge. Fixing this should be easier now that the deduplication tool is available. However, duplication has also been seen when running the deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has had a chance to fully sync their changes, so while we wait for some of the fixes they've made to make it to Stable , make sure you leave plenty of time between runs of the deduplicator. We hope this will improve now that version 81 is released to Stable.
• After an initial fix recently, some users are still experiencing Edge windows turning completely black. Opening the browser's Task Manager (keyboard shortcut is shift + esc) and killing the GPU process usually fixes it.Note that this only seems to affect users with certain hardware and is most easily triggered by resizing an Edge window.

• There are some issues where users with multiple audio output devices sometimes do not receive any sound from Edge. In one case, Edge is muted in Windows Volume Mixer and turning it on fixes it. In another, restarting the browser fixes it.

Remember that this version already shows the improvements that have previously been tested within the Canary Channel. You can now download the new Edge at this link on any of the channels on the platforms on which it is available. If you already have it installed, just go to preferences within the browser and check if you have any pending updates.
