These are the improvements that come to Edge with the latest update that Microsoft releases on the Dev Channel

The release of Edge in the general version for all users has not made Microsoft forget the pace of updates in its three test channels and in fact it has just recently updated the versions of Edge that can be downloaded from both the Canary Channel and the Dev (Developer) Channel

And with the latter we stay for the improvements they bring with this update. Edge on the Dev Channel is updated to version 81.0.403.1 and does so by adding some new features (a 3D viewer in the F12 Developer Tools) along with the Long awaited bug fixes and improvements.

Edge on Dev Channel

If you don't know if you have updated Edge (or any other Microsoft application) you can follow this tutorial or this one that we published at the time. Any of these methods will notify you if you have any pending updates. These are the improvements and additions that we are going to find:

Performance improvements

• Fixed an issue where navigating to certain websites would cause the browser to crash.
• Fixed an issue where websites that use the Windows prompt for login credentials sometimes cause a browser crash.
• Fixed an issue where using Collections sometimes caused the browser to crash when closing a window.
• Fixed an issue where certain DRM-protected videos would not play on Windows Insider builds.
• Fixed an issue where certain DRM-protected videos would not play on certain devices.
• This update temporarily hides the Global Media Controls button that was inherited from Chromium.
• Improved white flashes that sometimes occur with Dark Theme when loading internal web pages like Favorites, History, etc.
• Fixed an issue where spell checker was sometimes not enabled by default.

• Fixed an issue where editing favorites on the Favorites admin page sometimes causes folders to close or open unexpectedly.
• Improved Browser Task Manager persistence of column widths.
• Fixed an issue where there were two context menu entries for moving a tab to a new window.
• Fixed an issue where when trying to translate a page to the same language it's already in, the Translate popup does not display the current language correctly.
• Fixed an issue where the Done or Next button would sometimes not appear during the First Run Experience.

• Fixed an issue where parts of collections were inappropriately hidden when the browser's zoom level is set to more than 100%.
• Fixed an issue where pressing Shift+Tab while editing text in a Collection would unexpectedly exit text editing mode.
• Fixed an issue where pasting text into a Collection would sometimes display black text on dark when using Dark Theme.
• Fixed text formatting issues when pasting text into a Collection.
• Fixed an issue where the Read Aloud option was displayed in places where it could not be used.
• Fixed an issue where the list of available voices in Read Aloud was sometimes incorrect.
• Fixed an issue where Read Aloud sometimes doesn't read long sentences correctly when certain voices are used.
• Fixed an issue on Mac where websites installed as apps still had a title bar that was too high.

Known Issues

• The dialog for installing a website as an application sometimes does not appear.
• Users of certain security software packages will see all tabs fail to load with the error STATUS ACCESS VIOLATION. The only way to prevent this behavior is to uninstall that software.
• After an initial fix recently, some users are still experiencing Edge windows turning completely black. UI popups such as menus are not affected and opening the browser's Task Manager (keyboard shortcut is shift + esc) and killing the GPU process fixes it. Note that some of these fixes do not yet exist on the stable channel, and the issue only seems to affect users with certain hardware.

• Some users still don't see Collections enabled by default in Canary and Dev For users who want to try Collections, enable the flag at edge://flags/edge-collections it should still work to enable the feature.
• There are some issues where users with multiple audio output devices sometimes do not receive any sound from Edge. In one case, Edge is muted in Windows Volume Mixer and turning it on fixes it. In another, restarting the browser fixes it.
• At certain zoom levels, there is a noticeable line between the browser user interface and web content.

Remember that you can download the new Edge at this link on any of the channels on the platforms on which it is available. If you already have it installed, just go to preferences within the browser and check if you have any pending updates.
