Some computers with Windows 7 are freezing: the cause seems to be the update of this antimalware app
Table of contents:
Two days ago we saw how some users were experiencing problems on their computers with Google Chrome. The problem was caused by the Avira antivirus and its add-ons and in the absence of an Avira update to fix the problem, the most advisable thing to do was to uninstall the program if it caused too many problems.
And today we refer again to failures caused by a third-party application, a problem that affects Windows 7 users, who are reporting in forums about freezing problems on their computers in the mouse and keyboard.Issues that appear to be caused by the Malwarebytes application
For those who don't know it, Malwarebytes is a utility available for Windows and Mac that allows us to protect our computers against malware, ransomware and other advanced online threats that have made antivirus obsolete.
The bug appears to be caused by the latest version of Malwarebytes, which is numbered 3.6.1 CU 1.0.508 and It is not affecting all users, a fact that has caused the developer firm to request that those who do have the problem send the corresponding error log.
Apparently, once the equipment is frozen, you only have to pull a restart to make it work again correctly and if the errors reoccur, it would be advisable to uninstall the most recent version of the application and install a previous version, free of the _bug_, taking the precaution of deactivating automatic updates.
Also on MacOS
In addition, and as a result of the news echoed by Techdows, we have verified that the problem could also affect the application on MacOS , at least in Mojave, because on two of the computers where we have it installed, it has caused two crashes that have forced us to reboot without consideration and have to choose to uninstall it while the bug is corrected.
If you use Windows, to disable automatic updates you must go to the path Malwarebytes > Settings > Application, turn off Automatically download and install application component updates in Application updates. If you use MacOS you must enter Malwarebytes and the Help option to start the uninstallation. Once a previous version is installed, you can disable automatic updates by going into Settings and unchecking the Automatic Updates box."
