The entry into force of the GDPR already has consequences: Microsoft will discontinue the previous version of Skype for Windows 10
Table of contents:
Talking about iconic Microsoft applications is doing it among others from Skype. It is one of the apps that always comes to mind when talking about messaging along with WhatsApp, Telegram or Messenger (Facebook's). A veteran that already existed long before the arrival of the great dominators in recent years.
It is true that it does not offer the same functions as those mentioned above, but it cannot be denied that it has been one of the most used applications for many years. But time is passing and Microsoft doesn't want to miss a beat, so they are thinking of discontinuing the previous version of Skype for Windows 10 to give a boost to the users lagging behind and starting to use the latest version.
Consequence of the entry into force of the GDPR
To do this they are contacting by email with those users who still use the previous version of Skype urging them to give Jump to the latest version of Skype if you don't want to see your messages stored in the old version get lost:
This is one of the consequences of the entry into force of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), or RGPD in Spanish, a set of rules that will begin to enter into force in the European Union on May 25. For the sake of greater transparency on the part of websites and online services, they are obliged to notify us of the way in which they collect our information and how they inform us of what they know about us.
This means adopting a series of measures that may be too expensive for some companies, although this is not the case for Microsoft. Some have chosen to close their services or instead block access to European users and thus avoid a possible fine to face
A situation that Redmond has taken advantage of to notify users of the change and force them to make the leap to the new version of Skype , which I know is supported by the new regulations. So if you&39;re still using an older version of Skype, if you don&39;t upgrade you may see your chat history being lost on May 25th."
