Office for iPad is updated
Table of contents:
The Office team continues its round of updates to iOS apps. If this morning we told you about the update to OneNote, which also included news for Mac, now Microsoft is announcing new versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint for iPad
"We begin by mentioning the news that affects all apps equally. The first of these is the ability to crop images inserted into documents, either by manually choosing a new size, or using known aspect ratios, such as 3:2, 16: 9 etc The reset button is also added to image editing, which allows you to return the image to its original state, eliminating any format that we have added within Office."
Other options added to Office for iPad are the ability to export documents in PDF format (a function that can also be used by those who do not have an Office 365 subscription), and support for third-party fonts that we have installed on the iPad.
Pivot tables in Excel for iPadAs for specific innovations for each application, we have to Excel for iPad now supports pivot tables, allowing you to filter and sort the columns of these, as long as all the data in the table is contained in the same spreadsheet. You can also change the visual style and arrangement of elements in the table, and hide or expand sections of the table.
Excel for iPad also introduces a new touch gesture, with which you can select large sections of data by simply swiping up the address we want. For example, if we have a cell in the header of a table selected, swiping down will select the entire column of data below that cell. Finally, improvements are added regarding printing and keyboard shortcuts
"In PowerPoint we now have the Presenter View, a feature we already had in Windows, and that is displayed when the iPad is on connected to a second screen showing a presentation, allowing the presentation notes to be consulted on the tablet, or the content of the following slides."
On top of that, PowerPoint now supports playing audio and video within presentations, as well as adding multimedia content captured with the iPad's camera. Finally, it makes it easy to use freehand note-taking tools within the presentation.
Note that the Office apps for iPad are free, but require an Office 365 subscription to use them for editing and save documents (otherwise, they only allow you to view files).
Office Touch for Windows will arrive in a few months as a universal application
Given all these news for Apple platforms, many will wonder ">
Well, soon the wait will be over. According to Paul Thurrott, the version of Office Touch for Windows and Windows Phone is just around the corner. We mention both operating systems, because Office Touch would be a universal application, which would offer the same functions in both Windows 8.1, Windows RT and Windows Phone 8.1, leaving behind Office for iPad in this section.
This move by Microsoft might go hand in hand with the launch of business-oriented phablets between 6 and 7 inches, and with the anticipated launch of the Surface Mini , which has been on hold until now due to the lack of a touchscreen version of Office.
