One of the advantages of having increasingly fast and ubiquitous Internet connections – that is, access the Internet at any time and geographical location– is that surfers have exponentially growing access to information.

And the “classic” media - those that come from teletype and print - timidly but increasingly use the new capabilities offered by devices to spread their publications.

This is how the Reuters agency has arrived on Windows 8/RT devices, with a Windows Store application where I access the constant flow of news produced by this monster of communication.

Only in English

The version that has been published a couple of days ago has the main drawback that it only allows me to configure it for US or UK news , which is rather far away for Spanish-American readers in many cases.

However, in this globalized world I recognize many of the headlines, or will see them translated and repeated on the local news a few hours later.

The best thing about the content is that it is self-created. Reuters is arguably the most powerful and recognized news agency in the world, and they update articles constantly 24 hours a day.

Structure of the application

When opening the application, the first thing I find is the typical horizontal panel with images and headlines of the different sections into which the “virtual newspaper” is divided: Top News, SlideShows, Top Videos, World, Business, Business Videos, Technology, and a long etc. In fact, are three pages of different sections whose index I can access from the top menu of the application.

In the lower right part of this menu, I see the refresh button that, as its name says, what it does is update the panel with the latest news published; although this is already done automatically by the app.

The configuration, basically choosing between the two countries that it currently allows, is extremely simple and simple.

And navigation is typical of this type of Windows Store applications, being able to delve into the large volume of information it offers, clicking on the title of the section, of the news or of the photo, and moving between the articles by means of a slide to the left or right.

In summary, an application with a well-known and efficient format for its use, but which stands out for the number and length of the articles it offers , something that is appreciated and understood coming from a giant like Reuters, and the fact that it is totally free.
