VLC for Windows 8 is finally available in the Windows Store

It's been a long road since that fundraising campaign over a year ago but the end has just come: VLC for Windows 8 is now available for download in the Windows Store This has been announced by its developers on their official Twitter account.
The application works on Windows 8 and 8.1 and plays all types of video and audio formats, including MKV, Ogg or FLAC; supporting the same codecs as the desktop version. We will be able to select between different audio channels and open classic sub title files such as SRT.
For its premiere in Windows 8, the developers have prepared an interface adapted to the Modern UI style. The main menu is made up of a series of upper tabs and the video and audio files are presented to us in the style of tiles through which we can navigate horizontally. VLC can also be pinned to the side of the screen in snap mode and comes with support for live tiles.
Even so, the developers warn that this is a beta version of their application. Currently it is not as stable as it should be, it is slower than its desktop namesake and it does not have hardware acceleration. Their development team is working on improving support for audio and sub titles, hoping to be able to update the app more often once they've managed to get it published on the store.
Despite the latter, I confess that I've been wanting to put the file you have below for months. In it you have available the link to download the VLC player and test for yourself how it works in Windows 8. Windows RT users will have to wait a little longer
