VLC for Windows 8/8.1 about to be finished
VLC for Windows 8 has been made to beg. Announced for the first quarter of the year, the arrival of the popular video player in Modern UI has been delayed until almost a year after its fundraising campaign. But everything arrives, and the team behind the application is finalizing the details that allow them to publish it in the Windows store.
The last fringes of the project have to do with some bugs still present in the application that the developers are trying to fix. The most important one is an audio-related bug that is preventing the app from being accepted in the Windows StoreBesides this there are still numerous smaller bugs that need to be fixed, but the main aspects of VLC seem to work.
According to the latest report from the team, the current status of the application, which already passes WACK certification and runs on Windows 8 and 8.1 , is as follows:
- support for common formats, including MKV and FLAC,
- Audio,
- video (with correct aspect ratios),
- basic support for sub titles,
- support for file streaming and network dump,
- a simple but functional interface,
The VLC team is still working and hope to make a new attempt to upload the app to the store at the end of the weekAs soon as they manage to be in it, the application code will be released so that whoever wants to can contribute to the development. The team hopes that thanks to this there will be improvements in the interface part, still very simple.
The version of VLC is for WinRT platforms, which means Modern UI versions of the app for Windows 8/8.1 and Windows RT, and a possible version for Windows Phone 8. The former is the one that is Currently being finalized, but they are still working on a version for Windows RT and expect it to be ready in a matter of weeks. The version for Windows Phone should not require much additional work, so there is still hope to see the most complete player on our smartphones soon as well.
