One of the most anticipated news for Windows 8 geeks is the long-awaited publication of the download links of the first major revision, Windows 8.1An update in Preview format for millions of anxiously curious people to download and install.

But some of us have forgotten that it is, deep down, a software in Beta and that the failures and errors that it entails are inevitable such an early distribution of the operating system.

A locking fault

That a screen hangs, or that the computer slows down in various operations, is normal in a system that is in full development. It should be assumed by all of us who have ventured to install this version of Windows 8.

But there are bugs that are harder to get over, or cause enough frustration that some testers consider rolling back to Windows 8.0.

And in Windows 8.1 one of them has emerged: You can't scroll smoothly with your fingers in Modern UI applications, in its XAML version.

This bug also has two aspects that make it especially frustrating:It's not something trivial On a Windows RT tablet, practically makes it impossible to use most of the applications that use the Vertical Scroll; specifically the ListView control has erratic behavior.Which means that RT tablets are practically useless for use by their target users, consumers of information. They use client programs like twitter, facebook, tuenti, etc. on a daily basis. In the Build more than 12,000 tablets have been given away (two per attendee), and in the different TechEd they have been offered at such a great discount, that the lucky ones are almost guaranteed to have picked up a Surface.

"So, at the most important time for high end users, power users and media to be able to purchase and use Windows 8 tablet models…they go and update limits them so that makes them very uncomfortable to use."

To further despair, as it is not a critical security error, nor does it cause data loss or a machine crash, does not enter the 0-day update cycle(the hyper-priority ones) and it is not known how long it will take before the bug is corrected.

In any case, I remain hopeful that the dust that this defect is causing will lead the Windows development team to release an update soon, correcting the bug.

And always without forgetting that we are talking about a Preview version that is, precisely, so that none of these errors reach Windows 8.1(Blue) final.
