Torrex Beta

Little by little the Windows Store is filling up with all kinds of applications that allow you to perform typical desktop tasks in Modern UI. For intensive Internet users, P2P software is the order of the day and it's nice to have applications in Windows 8 that allow you to exchange files without having to go to your desktop.

In this line we present Torrex Beta, a BitTorrent client for Windows 8 that integrates everything necessary for us to comfortably exchange our files . The application is still in the beta phase, but it already allows you to perform many of the tasks that we expect from a P2P client and some more interesting ones.

Torrex Beta allows add our torrents directly from the bottom bar, either by opening a torrent file or through a link. It also includes a button to search for torrents, although this really only leads to a Google search.

When adding a new torrent we have the expected options on where to save the download or the selection of files that we want to download. The file will start downloading immediately, being able to pause or stop it at any time. If we are also dealing with a multimedia file, we can preview it with the player itself integrated into the application.

By accessing the configuration in the charms bar we can establish the typical preferences of this type of program: download or upload speed, number of connections or the port to use. The application also allows a certain level of customization by changing the background and colors, and we can dock it on one side of the screen to always have our downloads in view.

Torrex is free with , but it's not overly annoying. The app works fine, but it's still in beta and it shows, with some bugs that cause it to crash. Still, short of polishing things up and improving its development, it's still a decent first alternative to the classic desktop BitTorrent clients.
