Chameleon: daily images for your lock screen
Table of contents:
Windows 8 brings a series of images to display as a screen saver on the lock screen, but for most these will fall short. It never hurts to have our own image repository at hand. Something like this, although in a more sophisticated way, is what the application for Windows 8 proposes: Chameleon
"Multiple image channels"
Chameleon acts as an accumulator of high-quality images obtained from various web sites. To do this, it synchronizes with a multitude of well-known services that provide daily image selections, such as the photo of the day from NASA, Bing or Wikipedia. In addition to selecting the best photos from image banks such as Flickr or Picasa.
On its cover it shows us the different images currently provided by these websites together with those stored locally on our devices. By clicking on one of them we access the corresponding image channel, where we can navigate through the latest published images using a horizontal scroll and choose any of them.
Changing our lock screen
Each image has a small drop-down explanation from the bottom edge where we can read information about it, its author and the link from which it comes. We access the options from the lower bar of the application, which, as always, can be displayed by clicking the right mouse button.Along with the option to share the photo, we can save it on our hard drive, place it as the background of the application itself or set it as the lock screen image.
Chameleon also allows us to configure that the lock screen changes periodically of images. To do this, just choose one of the image channels offered by the application and display the bottom bar. In it we have the option to change the lock screen from time to time. We choose the one we like, press Start and allow the application to run in the background.
From the application configuration we can deactivate and activate the different services that come by default in Chameleon. But also, we can select the image search engine we want between Google, Baidu and Flickr. Thus, each time we press the magnifying glass at the top right of the application we can search for images and configure our own channel based on the results obtained.
In short, Chameleon is a good application that does what it promises. If you are able to ignore its logo, it is visually pleasing and gives all the prominence to the images. For those who want to be surprised every day as soon as they turn on their PC or tablet, Chameleon is a great option.
