Twitter customers these days are like opinions, each person has their own that adjusts to their tastes and needs . Certainly there are dozens of them but only a few are being used in the majority.

Since I first laid eyes on Windows 8 last September, I've been using MetroTwit by Pixel Tucker, that joins the requirements that I need to function through the social network, a Metro Modern UI aspect.

And that, you are going to receive an update for your version of Windows 8 that should put you at the forefront of the Store.

Desktop Client

The first thing to note is that the review is done on a Windows 8 Pro running on an ultrabook, that is, a tiny but tough laptop . So I can't comment on the touch user experience of the Modern UI client.

I can't say much about the desktop client, it's a normal client that allows us to manage an account and includes in the free distribution, we can add columns, manage lists, follow conversations, block spam, etc. All those things that a current twitter client should do.

Just in case point out the recipient cache that offers an interactive browser when I'm manually entering the recipient of a tweet, and that displays the avatar. A very useful option for direct messages or to start a conversation.

The design follows the Metro specifications (before Modern UI), and is quite comfortable. Although sometimes a little unstable with the constant hibernations that I subject the computer to.

Modern UI Client

The client, intended to run in a touch environment, is quite functional. It includes the capabilities of its desktop version and covers the expected needs to communicate fluently on Twitter.

The advantages come from Windows 8's ability to use the multimedia features of the hardware, so I can, for example, use the camera laptop to take photos and send them together with the tweet, or use the geolocation possibilities.

Some of the shortcomings in relation to the desktop version may be the number of simultaneous columns on the screen limited to two, the place where the one is displayed that is annoying since it produces a scroll effect on the selection of columns and that it does not allow to maximize the area of the tweets, and the lack of Live Tiles or on-screen notifications in the background.

The use with the mouse conveys a strange sensation, but not at all uncomfortable. I presume that with the fingers it must be a fast and friendly application since it uses an interface navigation that leaves the desktop metaphor.

Update for use on tablets

MetroTwit has just announced that it has passed Store certification and is available to everyone, and also outlines a new product updateincluding new capabilities:

  • Supports Twitter Streaming and uses Twitter API 1.1 API 1.1
  • List management
  • In the paid version, it supports multiple laps management
  • Horizontal and portrait view for some screens
  • Corrected multiple errors and incidents
  • Emoji support
  • Geolocation support

Lastly, David Golden, Winston Pang, and Long Zheng , the authors of the Twitter client, comment that despite the fact that it has taken them several months to prepare this update, they anticipate rolling out more features and bug fixes in the near future through the Windows Store.
