Postbox
Table of contents:
There are many email clients for Windows, and even so, none of them have convinced me. That is why I have always stayed with the Gmail website, although there is a client that has made me change my mind. Called Postbox, it works with any POP/IMAP account but is specially optimized for Gmail.
Postbox has practically all the features that we can find in a normal mail client: automatic account setup, three-panel view (folders, message list and preview), email signatures, acknowledgment of receipts... However, what makes it special are the most exclusive features that not everyone has.
Folders and shortcuts, just like in Gmail
Postbox folders are perfectly synced with Gmail labels, including colors and nested labels, much appreciated if you like I like to have everything in order. You will also see the "Important" folder, because Postbox is also integrated with Gmail's Priority Inbox, although unfortunately you cannot modify what is marked as important and not.
You can navigate through the list of messages using the Gmail shortcuts, but first you have to activate them in the settings (Tools – Options – Advanced – General) and restart the application. For those who don't know them, the basic ones are j and k to go forward or back in the messages, respectively; g to go to a folder; c to write and r to reply.
When writing messages we also see the integration with Gmail: Postbox download our contacts from Google and it will auto-complete the addresses and names that let's introduce And of course we can create formatted messages without any problem.
Integration with Dropbox, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn
One of the things I like most about Postbox is the integration with other services. The application can show us information about our contacts on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn just by linking our accounts in the configuration tab.
And to avoid the big attachment problem, we can use Dropbox to upload the attachment to our account and then send a link on email, avoiding having to use other services or dividing the file into multiple emails.
Other features of Postbox are the search in our folders, quite fast, the possibility of selecting favorite folders to always have them at hand in Top bar or Gmail-style conversation view with a text field to quickly reply without opening new windows.
But, like everything else, Postbox has some drawbacks For example, if you enter a tag that is out of sync, it will start downloading all the messages and you will not be able to use the application until it is finished. You can't hide labels either, so you'll always have the entire list visible, which in my case is a real nuisance.
Despite this, it's a client that is really worth it, especially if you use Gmail. There is a 30-day trial version of Postbox, after that you have to buy a ten dollar license if you want to continue using it.
