Microsoft rectifies and extends the deadline to continue using Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business on Windows Phone
Table of contents:
o a long time ago we saw a piece of news that raised a certain amount of dust. It made reference to the intention on the part of Microsoft to end some messaging applications within the business environment. This was the case, for example, of Microsoft Teams or Skype for Business
However, with the passing of days, the American company seems to have changed its mind about it... at least in part. Microsoft will continue to offer these active applications but it does not seem that in the long term the future of these utilities is too rosy
The term is extended but they will still be withdrawn
Microsoft planned to end its business messaging applications during the month of May within the Windows environment and in the end it will not be So. In the case of Microsoft Teams, its users will be able to continue using this application but until October 20, the date from which it will cease to be functional.
However, and having said this, it must be clarified that although the date of October 20 is the deadline to continue using it, it is not the same to get hold of it, because these will be removed from the app store on July 20.
With Skype for Business the situation is similar but the deadlines change. The application can be downloaded until December 2019 in the cases that Windows 10 Mobile is used, date that changes in the case of Windows Phone 8.1, whose users will lose access to the app in August 2018. The app will still be functional, but will no longer be downloadable.
This means that as of those dates, such applications will stop receiving updates and support with improvements and new features.
Users of these applications will have no choice but to make the leap to another mobile platform (iOS or Android never had it so easy ), access each one of them through the browser or if it can be made use of the computer (Mac or Windows). The increasingly black future of the platform was already known, but decisions of this type only accelerate the process.
