With Microsoft He alth you can count your steps on Windows Phone

Anonim

Those who have a latest generation Windows Phone (630, 730, 830, etc) may know that these devices include a feature called SensorCorethat allows, among other things, to measure the physical activity (count steps) of the person using the phone by processing information delivered by different sensors of the equipment.

SensorCore is even able to distinguish the movement produced by walking or running, from that produced by being in a car, train or bus, thus providing reliable information regarding how far we have moved with our feet during the day. This information may be shared with third-party apps that offer SensorCore integration so that we can keep track of our daily physical activity.

"

Unfortunately, a couple of months ago Microsoft retired one of the best SensorCore apps in the store. It was MSN Salud y Bienestar, an application that succumbed to the cleanup that the company made of its portfolio of MSN apps (MSN Travel and MSN Recipes were also withdrawn)."

The MSN He alth and Wellness app had support for SensorCore, but it was removed from the store

This wouldn't be such a problem if it weren't for the fact that on Windows Phone there aren't many applications that count steps using SensorCore And if we can't find another application with that function, we are simply left without being able to access this valuable information about our physical activity.

Luckily, I discovered a while back that the official Microsoft Band app, called Microsoft He alth, offers integration with SensorCore on Windows Phone , even if we do not use a Microsoft quantifying bracelet. Just like MSN Salud y Bienestar did, the information collected by Microsoft He alth is synchronized with the cloud, allowing us to consult and analyze it from the browser.

And even better: Microsoft processes the data, using information about our weight, age and gender, to deliver an estimate of daily calorie consumption , depending on our physical activity. This feature was not included in MSN He alth & Fitness.

"To start counting our steps with Microsoft He alth, simply download the app from the store, and then press the button in the upper right corner > select My Phone> activate the movement function, as shown shows in the following screenshots."

In the hamburger menu on the left we will find other options, such as the possibility of changing the metric units (Anglo-Saxon vs. decimal). When using the app we will be asked to login and provide basic information such as weight, gender and height. All this information will be available on the web by going to dashboard.microsofthe alth.com and logging in with the same Microsoft account.

Note: SensorCore only works on phones that have a Snapdragon 400 or higher processor, which leaves out models like the Lumia 435, 530 and 535, which use Snapdragon 200.
