It is not a joke

Microsoft has just launched a new operating system for its Lumia devices, and it is none other than an MS-DOS adapted for mobile phones. I know what you think, and in part it does seem to be an April Fool's joke, but it seems that they have gotten a little out of hand and have ended up creating a working application that works correctly.

MS-DOS Mobile is designed for Lumia-series smartphones, and combines touch features with the simple commands that made Lumia great the DOS platform. At first it is only a preview that we are not sure if it will have a final version, but even so, the current version is enough to make us take a nostalgic sigh.

Here we show you a list with some of the commands that are operative in this curious application. Some of them are the DOS classics, but there are a few that have been specially developed to take advantage of the functions of a smartphone:

  • COLOR: Changes the colors of DOS
  • CLS: Clears the screen content
  • DATE: Displays the date
  • TIME: Displays the time
  • ECHO: Shows a message that we can configure to our liking
  • FORMAT: Format the mobile hard drive
  • VER: Shows the version of MS-DOS
  • CAMERA.EXE: Opens the camera application
  • INTERNET / IE : Launches the browser with the entered address
  • EMAIL : Opens the mail client to send an email to the entered address
  • MAP / : Launches the map application with the location or search result entered.
  • MARKET: Launches the app store
  • SEARCH/CORTANA : Yes, Cortana also has an app in MS-DOS.
  • ASCII/CGA camera: Launches the camera in CGA or ASCII mode.
  • WIN: Launches Windows 3.1

As you can see, for an application intended to serve as a joke in which half the world is April Fool's Day, this MS-DOS for mobile phones is quite complete. We have given you a few of their commands, but we invite you to try it for yourselves and tell us any others you find
