6discover is here: Rudy Huyn's app for Snapchat Discover
Table of contents:
As he told us yesterday via Twitter, today the long-awaited new application by Rudy Huyn for Windows Phone As we already intuited , this app is related to Snapchat and reuses part of the code from the already withdrawn 6snap, which had to be removed from the store due to the new policy of this service not to support third-party clients.
The new application is called 6discover and corresponds to a client for Discover, a secondary service linked to Snapchat that serves to access content from major brands (CNN, ESPN, Comedy Central, NatGeo, among many others) in a modern and dynamic format, similar to the famous Snapchat stories, and specially designed for mobile phone screens.
The operation of the application is extremely simple (and almost identical to Snapchat Discover on other platforms). Upon entering it we will see a list of different content channels, such as MTV, CNN, Food Network, etc Selecting one of them will show us its most recent history , and from there we can scroll down to explore it completely, or swipe to the side to go to the following stories."
Each channel offers us a set of stories that is automatically renewed every 24 hours, and the list of channels along with their content is They are defined according to the region that we have configured in 6discover (the options are: United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and International). The ability to change the region is exclusive to Windows users, as content intended for another geographic location cannot be accessed on other platforms.
Why does Snapchat support an app like this, and not one like 6snap?
That's a question many might be asking themselves in light of this release. Wasn't it that 6snap had been taken down precisely because of Snapchat's API restrictions? How now can Rudy Huyn launch an app like this without said company getting on him?
The answer is that 6discover does not create any security vulnerabilities for Snapchat, which is what the company wanted to avoid by banning clients from third parties in main service. All 6discover does is get content from an official feed, which is the same for all users. At no time are passwords or personal data transferred (in fact, to use it you don't even have to log in, another advantage over Discover on Android and iOS).
In other words, it's just an advanced newsreader Which is why Rudy Huyn points out that if Snapchat ever takes action against 6discover, it would be because they simply have something against Windows Phone. But as we have said, most likely that will not happen, so we only have to download and enjoy this new application offered by our favorite developer.
