With Microsoft Xim we can now easily share slideshows on TV screens

Last October, Microsoft Research introduced Xim, an innovative cross-platform application that promises to allow us to share photos with friends without having to hand them physically our phone. To achieve this, Xim creates a synchronized slideshow among all the smartphones that we want to display the photos, that is, a slideshow where everyone who accesses itsee the same thing, at the same time

Best of all, Xim doesn't even require all users to have the app installedIt should only be used by the person creating the interactive slideshow (called a xim), and it can be accessed by others via a link in a web browser. Of course, if someone has the app installed, they can enjoy more options, such as the power add new photos to the presentation

Well, if this idea was already good, from now on it is even better, thanks to an update that adds the option to share the xim with the screen TV, through a connection with AirPlay, Xbox One, Fire TV, or Google Cast.

It will suffice for our television to be connected to one of these platforms so that we can project on it all those photos that we want to share, through the Internet. It is not even necessary that all devices are connected to the same WiFi network, since pairing is done by enter a code that will appear on the TV screen

If we do not have any of these options, it is also possible to display the photos on a PC monitor, choosing the Display on a browser option. If that is the case, we will have to enter www.getxim.com/pair from the browser and then enter the code that will appear on the mobile.

Another point to note is that it is still possible to share the slideshow with other people even when it is being projected on the TV or monitor . Thanks to this, everyone who participates in the xim will be able to control what appears on the screen, swipe or zoom to pass or enlarge the images, or even be able to add new images in case they have the application installed.

In short, everything works the same way as when the presentation is shared only with mobile devices, except that now there is an additional screen (the TV or monitor) on which the content is also displayed.

Big screen sharing is currently exclusive to Windows Phone, where we must update to version 1.3. 3 to use it. Even so, updates for iOS and Android will most likely be released soon that extend this functionality to those platforms.
