Lumia Storyteller becomes the perfect replacement for the Photos app thanks to its latest update
Table of contents:
After using it a few times, I get the impression that Storyteller is one of the most underrated Lumia apps out there. Despite not being widely used, it is an ideal tool to organize all the photos and videos that we have on our Lumias, and also to show them to friends through stories , which are slideshows that we can easily create and share with this application."
But since everything good can be even better, Microsoft has released an update for Storyteller, bringing it to version 4.0 and improves the experience that the app offers us in different sections. For example, now Storyteller can show more content, having reduced the size of the section titles, also changes the background color to black, in order to resemble more to the native photo application, and shows directly in the photo section the stories that we have created before ."
The idea behind these changes seems to be that we use Storyteller as a replacement for the Photos app, which makes sense when you consider that its ability to group images and videos according to events and places makes it ideal for exploring the content captured with our phone.
The update incorporates changes to the interface and integration with the new site LumiaStoryteller.com, where we can share our slideshowsThe improvements do not end there, the option to share stories without background music is also incorporated, the use of maps is improved offline (something very useful if we want to explore our collection according to places), and a context menu is added for individual photos, which is activated by keeping your finger pressed on them.
The only change that I think I didn't like is the replacement of the flat world map, in the places section, with a rotating globe, since we can't zoom directly on the latter, which reduces usability.
"And along with updating the app itself, Microsoft has also launched a new website, called LumiaStoryteller.com, where we can save and share our stories with other people. On the page we can see some examples of what one of these stories shared through the Microsoft service looks like."
Stories can be shared in private mode, in which case they can be viewed only by those who know the exact URL of the story,or in public mode, which will authorize Microsoft to display them on the front page of LumiaStoryteller.com, and will also be allowed to appear in web search engine results.
Another feature that I want to highlight in Storyteller, even though it has been available since before this update, is the ability to choose which photo folders we want displayedin the timeline section, thus being able to hide screenshots, photos from Instagram and/or WhatsApp. Something very useful to explore the contents of the phone in a cleaner way.
In summary, if Storyteller was already a solid alternative to organize, explore and share our photos, with this update It is even more so More than some of you may still prefer the native photo application, but personally I have already decided to remove it from my home screen to replace it with Lumia Storyteller.
