VLC Beta for Windows Phone hits the store
Table of contents:
Despite the delays, the team behind VLC for Windows is still working on bringing this application forward. The most recent breakthrough they have had is getting the beta published on the Windows Phone Store (after it was rejected and resubmitted multiple times). Of course, as had already been announced, this Beta is only for users who have previously registered in the testing program, so those who are not in it will receive an error message when trying to download it.
For those who are registered as beta-testers, it should be noted that at this stage VLC still presents many errors to be resolved, since precisely the purpose of the Beta is to identify such bugs to solve them, and also to obtain feedback regarding what changes or functions users would like to see.
We already have some known bugs, such as the inability to play audio in the background or display sub titles in videos. These and other bugs should be fixed in later releases.
On a personal note, I find the low speed with which this project is advancing a bit disappointing It's been 2 years since it was they raised the funds to push out versions of VLC for Windows 8 and Windows Phone, but all we have so far is a very buggy Beta that progresses at a very slow pace of development (personally I've gotten used to alternatives like MoliPlayer Pro, or the same Xbox Video, which with its latest updates is not bad at all).
It only remains to hope that the team behind VLC step up a bit so that we can see the final version in the near future , and that the result is of a quality that makes the wait worthwhile.
What impressions have you had of this VLC Beta?
