Modern Music

It's no mystery to anyone that the Xbox Music app isn't as smooth as it should, even after many updates. Perhaps for this reason, many want to look for alternatives to play local music faster and more conveniently. In Xataka Windows we have already discussed several of them, such as Musik Player or OneMusic, but recently I found another alternative player that I think is worth mentioning: Modern Music

This app strives to maintain the simplicity and speed that is sorely missed in Xbox Music. Thanks to it we can explore our local music collection easily and without suffering the typical lags of the Microsoft application.

In terms of functionality, it is also well positioned, having a good management of the playback queue, allowing us to reorder it and add songs to is. It also has support for ID3 tags, search for songs, albums and artists, and a recently added section where albums that we have recently added to the collection are displayed. There are also visual customization options, multiple item selection, and a playback view that shows album art full screen."

Modern Music stands out for its simplicity and speed, along with having good playback queue management and native support for Last.fm

And as an interesting addition, it includes native support for Last.fm, allowing us to link our account with the app and thus automatic scrobbling when listening to music.

Within its limitations is that, if we synchronize music through iTunes, the app is not able to read the automatically synchronized playlists, although it appears that this is actually a limitation of the Windows Phone API.To be able to load playlists on the device, it forces us to transfer the lists manually in .wpl format (Windows Media Player playlists) using the File Explorer. Certainly a cumbersome procedure that is far from the simplicity that the good Zune Software offered us at the time.

Other limitations that can be found are the absence of a recent plays section, or the impossibility of pinning albums and artists to the home screen. However, the developer claims that all those shortcomings will be fixed in future updates, along with adding better support for large screen devices like the Lumia 1520 and other improvements.
