The official Sphero app comes to Windows Phone 8
Table of contents:
Sphero is a smart robotic ball that can be synced with various devices via Bluetooth, offering endless possibilities beyond simply controlling its movement or LED lighting.
The limits are established by developers who want to create applications that make use of Sphero, who have the SDK at their disposal to take advantage of all its possibilities, be it for games or other uses.
For now, the official application is already available in the Windows Phone Store. This allows you to fully control the behavior of Sphero and play several games, although to use it you will obviously have to buy it in its store.
What is Sphero 2.0?
I recommend checking out the video above if you're interested in finding out exactly what Sphero 2.0 is. There is a previous version of Sphero, which is a little cheaper but also inferior in terms of features, although I am going to talk about the most current one.
This robotic ball is capable of rolling at a maximum speed of 2 meters per second, but at the same time it is easy to control and respond quickly. It also has its own LED lighting being able to shine in an infinite number of colors; more colors than the human eye can safely detect their creators.
It is made to work even in water, although there is a rubber cover to improve its capabilities in difficult places. Sphero comes with an inductive charging base, and offers a 3-hour battery life on a 1-hour charge.
In games you can even make use of augmented reality through the camera of the device you have, turning the real world into the world of your adventure.
The price of Sphero 2.0 is, in its official store, $129.99, although it is currently reduced to $99.99 as a summer sale. The first version is also available for $79.99.
Sphero for Windows Phone
The official Sphero app can only be used if a Sphero is detected via Bluetooth. Once synced, you can control it however you want and play the included games.
A large part of the experience remains in the hands of developers who want to participate in this project, making games or applications that take full advantage of this gadget. For them there is the developer section with a lot of material for various platforms.
At the moment there is no game compatible with Sphero on Windows Phone, although until yesterday its official application did not exist on this platform. We'll have to wait and see if they manage to catch the eye of a developer who wants to add support for Sphero to their game, or even create one designed to be played with it.
