In Outlook you can also undo sending an email
Yesterday Gmail finally publicly launched one of its most valued experimental features: the undo power sending an email, providing a window of time between pressing Send and the actual email being sent, thus giving us a chance to repentduring this period."
Don't get your hopes up either: the time windows are small, between 5 and 30 seconds, precisely because this works by delaying the delivery of the mail so that we can repent, rather than deleting an email already delivered to the recipient (the latter is impossible and will continue to be, since it would imply that other people could delete emails from our inbox without our authorization).
This is still a very useful feature, so many may be interested to know that is also available in Outlook 2013 and that it is relatively easy to configure.
"To do this, go to the File tab in the upper left corner and then select Manage rules and alerts. In the Rules and alerts window that will appear, click on New Rule."
"This will display a list of rules template>Apply rule to messages you send, the last option in the list."
Then we will be asked if we want the rule to apply only to a particular group of messages, which meet certain conditions. Here we can establish some filter (for example, delay only the messages that are sent to our boss), or leave the boxes blank, which will imply that it will be delayed sending all the messages we send.
Finally, we ask Outlook for the most important thing: to delay sending messages. To do this, select the last box in the list of actions that will appear (">
Note that Outlook allows to set time windows larger than those of Gmail: from 1 to 120 minutes, for the most paranoid.
"Finally, you have to ask Outook to activate the rule from now on (or else it will be saved but it will remain deactivated), and you should also give it a name that identifies it, such as Undo sends>"
"Done, all new emails we send will remain waiting>outbox, select the email, and delete it."
And if we want to rescue the content of the aborted email>Outlook provides much more granular control over this option, by allowing it to be accompanied by other rules to delay only the sending of some emails, or set different time windows for different types of emails."
