The controversy does not stop over the percentage of security and the desire to collect, in the final objective of speed cameras in the major highways, highways or cities.

Thus, to prevent a mistake – something very simple in a current vehicle with great power, safety and comfort – from making a serious break in the budget for the month, today I bring Radarix.

An excellent application that notifies us of the situation of the speed cameras located on our route.

The right data, in a complete App

The application is quite basic and simple, but at the same time complete and useful; in the case of an acoustic and visual warning that reminds me that I am approaching a road speed radar.

Before getting to the fundamental point of the application, the proximity alert, I have various information permanently on the screen, and it covers aspects such as:

  • The current speed at which I am driving, which is usually less than what the speedometer indicates, but greater than what it indicates.
  • The cardinal point to which I am heading, which for my taste is the least useful as information on the road.
  • The number of total kilometers, which are maintained even when the application is completely closed.
  • The number of kilometers of the route, which unlike the previous mileage is reset every time I exit the application.
  • The height in relation to the sea.
  • The time I've been measuring on the route.
  • The vertical and horizontal accuracy of the GPS location.
  • The average speed of the route.
  • Configuration is as simple and straightforward as the rest of the tool; where I can specify the three types of speed cameras that I want to be notified of their proximity: fixed, camouflaged (due to their most repeated geographical locations), and traffic light.

And where I can indicate the intensity of the alerts of the speed cameras among three levels: high, medium or low.

Thus, when the system locates that I am approaching a speed detection device, it alerts me with an acoustic and a visual warning, where shows me the distance I have left to overcome the radar and the speed at which I should be driving.

    Conclusions

The analysis and testing of this application is carried out on a trip of three days and more than 1200km. along Spanish roads.

And the first advantage is that, unlike applications with the raw data entered by the users themselves, the number of false positives from Radarix is practically nil .

When it indicates that there is a radar, it means that there is. If anything, an update would be appreciated that would check the orientation of the radar and the route so that those that are in the opposite direction would not mark us, when they were not transversal to the road as some are.

Another positive thing about Radarix is that it works perfectly both in vertical and horizontal format, which I found quite comfortable when combining its use with the mobile's GPS.

And the last thing that I loved is the realization of alerts and information. I have what I need and not much else.

It is true that Radarix could evolve to turn it into a travel blog, in the style of physical exercise tracking applications, but with the core it now has it is enough to be totally useful and recommendable .
