Microsoft creates modern.IE to help develop web sites and applications

At Microsoft they understand like nobody else how difficult it is to develop websites that work correctly in all browsers and systems. As much as the web standards that are forming such as HTML5 or CSS3 are respected, testing that everything works well on any device or browser still takes a long time in development. In addition, there are still a large number of users who browse with old versions of Internet Explorer or other browsers, which constitutes an even greater challenge.

To help developers in this task, and incidentally promote new web standards, the team behind Internet Explorer has decided to launch the modern page.IE. In it, Microsoft makes available to developers a set of tools and documentation, including: a web code scanner, special free access to BrowserStack and a good number of tips such as a list of good practices when writing code.

The web scanner works in a similar way to others already existing on the network. By entering our url, the tool checks the web and its code generating a report with the results of three categories: common problems that are usually the result of supporting old versions of Internet Explorer, help for the site to work well in all browsers and devices, and some tips for adding typical Windows 8 functionality, such as touch support.

From modern.IE, Microsoft also provides access to the BrowserStack service, which allows us to instantly test our websites on all types of systems and browsers without having to worry about carrying out our tests manually in different browsers.Offer includes free access for three months for those who register before January 10, 2014.

As the objective is also to promote the new standards, the website is completed with documentation that includes a list of twenty tips to follow to build our sites according to them, while continuing to support old versions from IE. For now the content available may seem scarce, but modern.IE is still a beta project and Microsoft intends to continue adding tools and documentation to help developers.
