Confirmed: You can now upload files up to 10 GB each to OneDrive

At the beginning of the month we told you that OneDrive had applied one of the improvements most requested by users: allowing to upload and synchronize files larger than 2GB , something that until before this was prohibited.

However, we were not clear at the time what the new file size limit was, due to the lack of an official announcement from Microsoft. That until now, because the OneDrive team has just published a note where they explain that the new limit is 10GB , and at the same time give details of other improvements they have added.

There is no restriction on which client we should use to upload large files, so the feature is available on any OS and even on the OneDrive website. In OneDrive for Business the limit is still 2GB, but it ensures that it will soon catch up with what its sister service offers.

Also, from now on Sync with Macs and PCs will be faster According to Microsoft, this is achieved by allowing more files and folders to sync simultaneously, which would have allowed up to 3x faster transfer speeds in internal tests. The speed improvements are rolling out gradually, and should be available to all users within a few weeks.

But there&39;s more. It&39;s announced that it&39;s now possible to get file sharing links right from your desktop using the OneDrive clients for Windows 7 and 8, without going to the website. This feature will soon be available for Mac and Windows 8.1, and to use it simply right-click the file or folder you want to share, then click Share a OneDrive link, which will copy the link to your clipboard. "

And the OneDrive website gets improvements, too. Specifically, it now allows us to upload entire folders via drag and drop using modern browsers such as IE 11, Chrome, and Firefox.

These are all features that we already learned about thanks to the User Voice website for OneDrive. And according to that same page, the next functions to be added will be the synchronization of shared folders and the indexed search of documents. We'll keep you posted when that happens.
