Possible new features of SkyDrive to improve the way you share and sync files
SkyDrive has gotten a lot better lately thanks to its integration with Windows 8.1 and changes to the way you sync files and folders. But the Redmond cloud storage service still has room for improvement and that is what could come with new features focused on how we share and synchronize our files.
The information about the possible news of SkyDrive comes from LiveSide.net, which already in the past gave details about the recently released support for panoramic images and has also warned about a possible text editor on the web and improvements in the filters to navigate through all our photos. Now they're back with a new compilation of possible features that the team behind SkyDrive is planning.
The first one has to do with the way we access files shared with us. Until now, the process requires navigating through shared folders until you find a specific file. But a future update will introduce the concept of shared lists, which allow you to group up to 100 files from different locations and put them together in a list that can be shared with others, making it easier the organization of our files and folders.
Another issue to resolve on the issue of shared content is the fact that the desktop client does not synchronize these files or folders, making it difficult to access all those elements when we are offline. With a new functionality, Microsoft will allow to mount other users' folders shared with us, so that we can also keep those files synchronized on our computers.
And if what it is about is synchronization between devices, there is a third functionality in preparation that will allow us to better manage the configuration of all of them. In this case, the novelty consists of an additional configuration page in SkyDrive that will allow us to manage the configurations saved in the cloud from our devices. Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8 already allow you to save these settings to SkyDrive, so if added, this new option will help us manage them directly from the web.
Given LiveSide.net's previous success record on SkyDrive, it is probable that there is some truth in these functionalities and they will not take long to reach our accounts. Of course, no details are given on specific dates, so we will have to wait while Redmond continues to improve its cloud storage service.
