Internet Explorer will block outdated ActiveX controls from August 12

Anonim

On August 12, along with the previously announced update of the month for Windows 8.1, Microsoft will also release a security update for all versions of Internet Explorer that are supported (8.0 and higher) to prevent out-of-date ActiveX controls from running, trying to protect the user from the risks of security that this implies.

This feature will be called out-of-date ActiveX control blocking , and it will be implemented in such a way as to affect the functionality of pages that use ActiveX controls as little as possible. To do this, will notify the user whenever a control is blocked from being used because it is out of date, and will give the option to download and install the latest version of it to avoid future restrictions. It will also be allowed to interact with the other sections of the web page that do not make use of the blocked ActiveX control.

Also, we will have the option to ignore the Internet Explorer restriction and run the control anyway. There will also be great flexibility for system administrators to modify the behavior of this security feature. For example, they will be able to deactivate it for specific domains, deactivate it completely, or, on the contrary, remove the option for users to ignore the blockade.

In addition, the restriction will not apply to local intranet pages or qualified as trusted sites, to avoid generating problems in the environments that use ActiveX controls internally.

This image shows the appearance of security notifications for blocked ActiveX controls, in Internet Explorer 9+ and Internet Explorer 8, respectively:

"

And how will Internet Explorer know which ActiveX controls are up-to-date and which are not? Through an XML file stored on Microsoft servers, which will serve as a blacklist>"

This update will be available starting next Tuesday for users of Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.x.
